Japanese curry rice (カレーライス)
This is one of the most popular dishes in Japan. Almost all Japanese people know about it. Basically, it is a half rice and a half curry in one plate. It is very different from Indian curry or any other curries.
You can choose sweet, medium or hot curry sauce or add hot sauce by yourself.
Ingredients (For 8 plates, since 1 box of curry sauce is for 8 people):
- 2 potatoes
- 1 carrot
- 2 onions
- any kinds of meat {300 g, (0.7LBS) of chicken or pork or beef}
- 1 box of *Japanese curry sauce -> See picture A
- 1000ml (34floz) of water
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
- rice for 8 people
Here is how to make it at home. Cooking time is about 30 - 40 minutes.
- Cut each ingredient into bite size chunks.
- Preheat vegetable oil in a pot with medium heat, stir meat and vegetables until the onions are little brown.
- Add water and simmer with low to medium heat until ingredients are soft. (about 15 minutes).
- Remove from heat, add *Japanese curry sauce into the pot, and stir until dissolved.
- Simmer until it thickens with low heat and stir occasionally (about 10 minutes).
- Serve over cooked rice.
